OK. I’ll say it up front: I am biased.
Terre Haute is my hometown, and I have a deep abiding affection for it. My folks are still there, as are my two youngest brothers. So I am going to promote my old stomping ground first. I will regularly promote and otherwise push unique and interesting events and local cultural “items” throughout the Hoosier state and ultimately, encourage people to take a weekend, a Saturday or Sunday and go.
But I am starting with Terre Haute. And this is legitimate – a genuine good deal.
So here’s the scoop: I have recently learned – through the e-mailed newsletter from Downtown Terre Haute, Inc. – of a new ice cream shop in town. The Downtown Scoop, located at 5th Street and Wabash Avenue; in the heart of downtown TH. These folks have 26 flavors of locally-made ice cream from the Yegerlehner’s Swiss Connection in Clay City.
Yegerlehner’s – say that three-times-fast. And you know that Swiss influence – everything those guys make is good.
While you’re planning time in the River City, be sure to make it to the Spectrum Services 2nd Annual Bike Show, Saturday, September 19th. It will be held at 1616 Wabash Avenue beginning with registration at 9:00 am, and then awards will be presented at 1145 am.
…And if you’re staying all day, wrap up the whole experience at one of my favorites from childhood: dinner at Ambrosini’s at 14th and Wabash.
Look – you’ve just “Cruised the ‘Bash” (something that has been going on only for the last fifty years or so) – and you didn’t even mean to.
So where ever you are, get out of town, or just get out of the house, and go. See and do something you might not usually do, support the local economy, check out a new local gem, find out what else is happening, and see what’s doing.
